Ultimaker
With the merger of 3D printing pioneers MakerBot and Ultimaker, the challenge was to create a new brand identity that honored their combined legacy while looking toward the future. The result was UltiMaker.
The new visual identity system was created to be flexible and cohesive. The logo draws inspiration from the mechanics of 3D printing, with a dual-meaning mark that can be read as both a “U” and an “M.” The wordmark features rounded corners that mirror the symbol, while contrasting letterforms convey a balance of precision and fluidity.
A new visual language was also developed, including a flexible color palette that blends the red and blue of the original brands with a more modern feel. We also created a new type system and provided detailed layout principles, giving the brand a solid and enduring framework for future evolution.
